Then Jesus replied, “I have been sent only to those lost sheep, the people of Israel.” Matthew 15:24
Jesus in the territory near the cities of Tyre and Sidon was met by a Canaanite women. She cried out to Jesus, “Son of David!” Have mercy on me! My daughter has a demon and in a terrible condition.”
But Jesus did not say a word to her. His disciples came to him and begged to send her away because she had been following them with this plea repeatedly.
Then Jesus replied his disciples that he was being sent only for the lost sheep of Israel. Hearing this, the woman fell at his feet and begged for Jesus’ help, mercy.
Jesus answered her with an impolite manner that it was not right to take children’s food for the dogs. With great humility and sincerely, the woman knew that was Jesus trying to express. She answered humbly, “Even dogs eat the leftovers that fall from their master’s table.” Meaning even though she was not one of them, low in identify, she was still worth to be shown mercy and kindness.
The woman’s humility and perseverance expressed wholly and completely her love for her daughter. She followed Jesus all along the way with just one particular intention, to receive mercy from him.
Seeing her faith, Jesus answered, “You are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you.” And at that very moment her daughter was healed. The mercy of Jesus Christ worked the miracle of healing beyond boundary.
Mercy is getting what you deserve.
