‘ Love your Lord your God ‘ and ‘ Love your neighbor as yourself ‘. Matthew 22:34-40
A pharisee teacher, a teacher of the law tried to trap Jesus with a question, ” Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law? “.
Jesus answered, ” Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul and with all your mind. ” This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is, ” Love your neighbor as you love yourself. ”
In fact, ” Love your neighbor as you love yourself ” is the golden rule of Jesus. A commandment is to live whereas rule is to keep. It is golden because it is both a way of Christian life to live so as to keep.
The teacher of the law said to Jesus, ” Well done, it is more important to obey these two commandments than to other animals and other sacrifices to God. ” Jesus thus praised him wise by saying, ” You are not far from the kingdom of God. ”
Jesus who said such demonstrated this on Himself and He forgave all his neighbors on the cross as He said, ” Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing. ”
The parable of the ‘ The Good Samaritan ‘ was a good teaching on this. The Samaritan was the one who showed he loved his neighbor as he love himself.
Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
