John the Baptist said : ” This is the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ” John 1:29
John answered the priests and Levites who were sent by the Jewish authorities, ” I am the voice of someone shouting in the desert : make a straight path for the Lord to travel!” A message from the prophet Isaiah. He even said, ” He is coming after me, but I am not good enough even to untie his sandals. ”
God who sent John to baptize with water said to him, ” You will see the Spirit come down and stay on a man; He is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. ” John had seen it and he confirmed that Jesus was the Son of God. He was the eye-witness for this.
The next day John was standing there again with two of his disciples, when he saw Jesus walking by, ” There is the Lamb of God! ” he said.
The two disciples heard him say this and went with Jesus. He turned, saw them and said, ” Come and see, ” when the two disciples asked, ” Where do you live, Rabbi? ”
One of them was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. At once he found Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah. ” Then he took Simon to Jesus whom he said that Simon Son of John would be called Cephas. This was the same as Peter and meant ” A rock”.
From Malachi to the Gospel of Matthew was 400 years of God’s silence. God was indignant with his people and did not speak to them anymore. In his mercy, he remembered his Covenant which he made with Abraham. God is a God who keeps his promises and is faithful to the end. He then sent his only son, Jesus to be the lamb who took away the sin of the world. A lamb which was humble and dumb, led only to be slaughtered.
Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
