” Jesus! Master! Take pity on us! ” Jesus saw them and said to them, ” Go and let the priests examine you. ” Luke 17:13-14
As Jesus was going along the border between Samaria and Galilee, he went into a village, where he was met by ten men suffering from a dreaded skin disease. They shouted from a distance at Jesus; ” Jesus! Master! Take pity on us. ”
Jesus saw them, said; ” Go and let the priests examine you. ” While on the way they were made clean.
One of them, seeing himself being made clean, healed, he came back praising God in a loud voice and he threw himself to the ground at Jesus’s feet and thanked him. This man out of ten was the only person who knew to return thanks for being healed. He was a Samaritan. Jesus thus said to him, ” Your faith had made you well. ”
This man who was a Samaritan was exceptional from the other nine. He was also the only who had exceptional faith and gratitude.
His sincerity and humility before Jesus expressed his thankfulness for being healed from such a dreaded disease which was a rejection from the public. In doing so, Jesus said to him that apart from being healed, he was even being made well both physically and spiritually.
He would live a joyous life from now on because he had a thankful heart. The joy of living comes from a heart of thanksgiving. Return thanks is a good manner and a way to express one’s gratitude.
We must find time to stop and thank the Lord who make a difference in our lives.
