Then Jesus said to his disciples, ” If anyone wants to come with me, he must forget self, carry his own cross, and follow me. ” Matthew 16:24

To follow Jesus is to live his lifestyle and walk his way. A person who had decided to come with Jesus must forget self. Ignoring one’s identity would a person able to carry his own cross and follow Jesus.

Jesus did say ” Take my yoke and put it on you, learn from me for my yoke is easy. ” Jesus’ yoke was also his own cross to Calvary. Jesus long way to Calvary did not defeat him any. He made this difficult way through with the cross upon his shoulder. This cross was being put upon him by the world and then our sin nailed him on it, the sins of all sinners.

Jesus was the only person who dared to say, ” Follow me, ” because he was the way, the truth and the life. He was the Son of God, who lived in accordance with the will of his Father. His mission was to fulfill the will of his Heavenly Father and that was his cross.

Jesus knew his Heavenly Father, yet he used to deny himself as the Son of God in the form of his birth in a manger, a simple life as a carpenter and died a shameful death, naked on the cross on Calvary with two bandits.

Therefore, to follow Jesus as one of his followers, a cross is there ready, stand-by for you. This cross is our trials in life. Trial of hardship, sickness, betrayal, unfaithfulness and so on.

By the grace of God, let us draw strength from Jesus Christ, our Lord to be like him to carry our own cross which is never beyond our strength to Calvary. For when the Son of Man comes in the glory of his Father with his angels, Jesus would repay everyone according to his deeds. The deed is our own cross from God as Jesus, his son without exception.

Accept what is, let go of what was, have faith in what will be.
