Then the Spirit of God led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. Matthew 4:1
It was clear that temptation was from the devil, none others. After Jesus was being baptized by John at the Jordan, he was led by the Spirit into the desert to face temptation. A desert is the most ideal and suitable place to build one’s faith. Faith is only genuine when tested, over come and still stand the ground.
Without food for forty days and nights in the desert, Jesus was hungry. By nature, when a people is hungry, he would surely and easily yield for food. In fact Jesus had been fasting for forty days in the desert.
Then the Devil seeing the right and persuasive moment to destroy Jesus, the Son of God before he started his mission, took his opportunity to act his evil deeds. The Devil knew that Jesus needed food very much to fill his hunger. So he said, ” If you are God’s son, order these stones to turn into bread. ” Failing which the Devil continued to tempt Jesus two more times.
Lastly, Jesus answered, ” Go away, Satan ! The scripture says, ” Worship the Lord your God and serve only Him ! ”
Then the Devil left Jesus; and angels came and helped him. Jesus, demonstrated his faith and trusted on his Heavenly Father by over coming temptation; not yield to it by claiming on the word of God. The word of God is the most powerful and sharp weapon to fight Satan. It is a double edged sword to knock down the Devil on his face.
By faith and with the word of God, the Devil is always the defeated, the loser. Think of the temptation of Jesus and draw strength and grace from him whenever we are in the situation of temptation.
If we do not abide in prayer, we will abide in temptation.
