Jesus told them, ” But I do not have the right to choose who will sit at my right and my left. These places belong to those for whom my Father has prepared them. ” Matthew 20:23
The mother of James and John pleaded at Jesus for a position for her two sons to be seated at his left and right when he became king. These two seats are the most favorable seats that everyone desires in our society. However, Jesus answered her that even he himself did not have the right to decide. It was only the Father who would approve of such.
The person who is quality to sit at Jesus’ right or left is suppose to be the greatest in the eyes of God. He should be the one to serve and not to be served. He must be the servant of the rest, a slave to them. He must be liked Jesus who demonstrated his love to serve in washing the feet of all his disciples, A servant – to serve and not to be served.
The two criminals, one at Jesus’ right and the other left at Calvary altitude differently. It was the bandit who was at the right received Jesus’ assurance and promised today he would be in the paradise with Jesus.
As says in the Bible that on final judgement day, Jesus would divide his people into two groups. Then the king would say to the righteous people on his right, ‘ Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world, I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me, ‘ Matthew 25:34-36
This applies to our attributes as followers of Jesus Christ just to serve as humble servants not for position but for the kingdom of God. Alleluia.
