Jesus concluded, ” Be on your guard, then, because your do not know the day or the hour. ” Matthew 25:13
Once there were ten girls who took their oil lamps to meet the bride groom. Five of them took their lamps but did not take any extra oil with them. While the other five were wiser taking containers full of oil for arrival of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was late in coming anyway, so all the ten girls began to nod and fall asleep.
It was already midnight when the cry rang out, ” Here comes the bridegroom. ” The ten girls woke up and trimmed their lamps. The five with no extra oil said to the wiser five, ” Let us have some of your oil, because our lamps are going out. ” “No, there is not enough for you and for us. Go and buy some for yourselves, ” They answered.
While these five were gone, the bridegroom arrived. The five girls who were ready went in to the wedding feast, and the door was closed. Later when the other five girls came back, they were not allowed to go in for the feast because the door was closed. They cried and groaned in the dark missing the bridegroom and the wedding feast.
And Jesus concluded, ” Be on your guard, then, because you do not know the day or the hour. ” He is reminding all of us to always be alert and be prepared. No one knows, however when the expected is arriving. Waiting upon for the arrival of the bridegroom with lamps and containers full of oil like the five wise girls, were said to be wiser to have prepared the necessity needed for the right time grasping the golden moment of grace which appeared while waiting with full readiness and allowed in with opened door.
To be alert is to keep the lamp of our heart burning day and night.
