” Teacher, ” The blind man answered, ” I want to see again. ” Mark 10:51

As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus was sitting by the road side. His name Bartimaeus represented his poorness and nothingness. Everyday he had been hoping and longing to meet Jesus, whom he heard about. A man who could give him new life.

One day when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, ” Jesus ! Son of David ! Take pity on me ! ” At the top of his voice in order to be heard. Nobody was willing to help him, instead they scolded him to be quiet.

In spite of their indifference, he shouted even more loudly, ” Son of David, take pity on me ! ” Begging for mercy, he made his prayer direct with earnest faith repeatedly. At last he caught Jesus’ attention stopped and said, ” Call him. ”

So they called the blind man, ” Cheer up ! ” They said, ” Get up, he is calling you. ” He threw off his cloak, jumped up and came to Jesus.

” What do you want me to do for you? ” Jesus asked him. He answered, ” Teacher, I want to see again. ” ” Go, ” Jesus told him, ” Your faith has made you well. ”

At once he was able to see and followed Jesus. His blindness and nothingness proved to be blessings for Bartimaeus to receive eternal life to become a follower of Jesus the rest of his life. No longer a beggar but a true believer of Christ Jesus. Though born blinded, he had used the eyes of his heart to see Jesus day after day. The day indeed had come to him, Bartimaeus’ direct prayer and earnest faith made him able to see again.

Always put your hope in God.
