Be ready for whatever comes, dressed for action and with your lamps lit. Luke 12:35
If the owner of a home knew the time when the thief would come, he would not let the thief break into his house. He would surely stay awake to keep his eyes on everything with protection for all his belongings.
Jesus said, ” Be ready for whatever comes, dressed for action and with your lamps lit, like servants who are waiting for their master to come back from a feast. When he comes and knocks, they will open the door for him at once. Happy are those servants whose master finds them awake and ready when he returns! ”
The master would be very happy and please even if he should come at midnight or even later. He would then take off his coat, tell them to be seated and waited on them.
As servant, be watchful and ready at all time for the return of the master as said by Paul to stand ready, keep alert and never give up. Put on the armor of God with truth as a belt tight round the waist, righteousness as breast plate and as shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. Pray always and be on guard because we are fighting against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age.
Jesus reminded us not to become occupied with too much feasting and drinking and with the worries of this life. He said we must be ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour when we are not expecting him. As it was in the time of Noah so shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. Everybody kept on eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. At our least expectation, that day may suddenly catch us like a trap catching the birds. May the grace of God give us strength to stay awake always day and night as his faithful servants.
To be awake is to stay ready.
