Jesus concluded, ” The Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath. ” Luke 6:5
In Genesis was the story of creation. God used six days to create the universe. By the seventh day God finished what he had been doing and stopped working. He blessed the seventh day and set it apart as a special day, because by that day he had completed his creation and stopped working.
The Sabbath was liked the seventh day of God’s creation. It was a special day assigned by God as a day of reset for his people to be still to know that he is God. Sabbath was for the good for human beings. The Israelites honored and kept the Sabbath. But in the time of Jesus, the Pharisees implemented a lot of regulations and the writings of the prophets. Jesus said to them, ” You are the ones who make yourselves look right in other people’s sight, but God knows your hearts. ”
They insisted not even to do good but stick to their man-made-law by keeping the Sabbath. They weren’t willing even to live a finger to help others on this day. Jesus said they were blind guides and hypocrites.
Keeping the rules and regulations are also teachings handed down from our ancestors but we must not be made slaves to them. If by keeping these made us to neglect doing good and not loving one another on the Sabbath contradicted the teaching of Jesus totally. The Sabbath was made for man and not man made for the Sabbath. Thus Jesus concluded, ” The Son of Man is the Lord of the Sabbath. ” Luke 6:5. Jesus healed the sick and set free those living in sin. He demonstrated his love on the Sabbath as a savior to save his people from the death of sin. He was the Lord of the Sabbath and Lord of Lords.
The Son of God became a man to enable men to become the sons of God.
