Isaac brought Rebecca into the tent that his mother Sarah had lived in, and she became his wife. Genesis 24:67
God said to Abram, ” Leave your native land, your relatives, and your father’s home, and go to a country that I am going to show you. I will give you many descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, so that you will be a blessing. Genesis 12:1-2
Abram was seventy-five years old when God called him. He obeyed and started out from Haran, as the Lord had told him to do. Abram took his wife Sarah, his nephew Lot, all his slaves and all the wealth they had acquired in Haran and started out for the land of Canaan.
When they arrived in Canaan, Abram travelled through the land and camped between Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. He believed and trusted God for his guidance. He knew that God’s promises would never fail. His life was then lived on the move. Abram and his family lived in tents and he died at the ripe old age of a hundred and seventy-five. By faith he lived as a foreignness in the country that God had promised him. He lived in tents for nearly one hundred years.
For Abraham was waiting for the city which God has designed and built, the city with permanent foundations Hebrews 11:10. We are all foreigners and refugees on earth with bodies as our tents. We longed for a better country, the heavenly country which we belonged, ” We would be like Abraham living in a city which God had prepared for us; when our tents collapsed.
Living with faith lead us closer to God.
