My temple will be called a house of prayer. Luke 19:46
Everyday Jesus taught in the temple, all the people listened to him, not waiting to miss a single word. One day, Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out the merchants, saying to them, ” it is written in the Scriptures that God said, ” My Temple will be called a house of prayer. ” The people took the opportunity and turned it into a hideout for thieves which Jesus flew into a rage.
For ancient Israelites, they worshiped God on the mountains in Jerusalem. But Jesus said to the Samaritan woman at the well, ” Believe me woman, the time will come when people will not worship the Father either on the mountains or in Jerusalem. The time is coming and is already here, when by the power of God’s Spirit people will worship the Father as he really is, offering him the true worship that he wants. ”
Jesus went to the temple everyday to pray and at the same time he teaches. The temple was the holy place for believers to come together to pray and to worship God, the Father in fellowship with one another so as to seek him.
King David settled in his palace and he wanted to build a temple. But the Lord told him not to build for God does not live in a temple made of cedar, instead he lives in us. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit as said Jesus; God is Spirit and only by the power of his Spirit, we worship and offer prayers unto him in adoration in our temple, the house of prayer, temple of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer is a strong wall and fortress of the church.
