Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Colossians 3:12

Paul wrote to the first-century church at Colossae for the diversity created by false teachers in the church among its members. These teachers said, one must submit to special rites and observe strict rules about foods and other matters.

Paul wrote to oppose these teachings with the true Christian message on the basis to pursue understanding, peace and unity as members of the body of Christ. To clothe themselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Be tolerant and forgive one another as the Lord has forgiven them. And to all these qualities add love, which binds all things together in perfect unity.

Putting these principles into practice in decision making is what Jesus calls us to. The peace that Christ gives is to guide in decision making. It is to this peace that God has called us together in the one body. What we as believers hold in common is our love for him and be thankful. Christ’s message in all its richness must live in our hearts. Teach and instruct each other with wisdom as members of the body of Christ. Everything should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus through him to God the Father who loved us and chose as his own people.

Christ’s love creates unity in the midst of diversity, amid all the wonderful differences, let set our hearts on the things that are in heaven to pursue an even greater unity in Christ Jesus. Likewise, oneness which the church emphasized is above unity in diversity.

Put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
