He was not the Light but a witness to introduce the Light. John 1:8
A man came, sent by God; his name was John. He came to bear witness to introduce the Light. For the Light was coming into the world, the true Light that enlightens every man. All things were made through him and without him nothing came into being.
During the time when Herod was King of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah and his wife was Elizabeth. They had no children because Elizabeth could not have any and both were very old. One day while Zechariah was doing his work as a priest in the temple, an angel of the Lord appeared to him and said that his wife Elizabeth would bear him a son. He was to name him John and he would be great in the Lord’s sight. He would go ahead of the Lord, strong and mighty like the prophet Elijah getting the Lord’s people for him.
The time came for Elizabeth to have her baby and she gave birth to a son. The child grew and developed in body and spirit. He lived in the desert until the day when he appeared publicly to the people of Israel. It was the fifteenth year of the rule of the Emperor Tiberius, at that time the word of God came to John, son of Zechariah in the desert. So John went throughout the whole territory of the River Jordan, preaching, ” Turn away from your sins and be baptized and God will forgive your sins. ” As it is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah : “Someone is shouting in the desert : ” Get the road ready for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel! ”
John preached the Good News in many different ways to the people and urged them to change their lives. Indeed, John the Baptized was the voice in the desert for Jesus.
Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.
