Your Father who sees what is kept in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:4

Jesus taught to do good for God alone : not to make a show of your righteousness before people. When giving something to the poor, do not even let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret.

God cannot reward us as long as we seek our own interest and the approval of others. He will begin listening and showing himself to us when we make him the only witness of our life : The Father who is in the secret remains secret and he sees what cannot be seen. God who is invisible sees the visible things that his children are doing. He is the light who brightens our acts and motives.

Happy is the man who knows him and knows that God sees through the heart of a Moabite woman, Ruth who remained faithful to her widowed mother-in-law, Naomi. She chose not to leave her after the death of both husbands because in the depth of her heart, she loved Naomi and wanted to serve her.

When both of them returned from Moab to Bethlehem as the barley harvest began, Ruth gleaned in the field of Boaz. She sacrificed herself, given up her hope in marrying a young man and accepted being the wife of an older man, Boaz who was a close relative, one with a sight of redemption over them.

One night in secret, Ruth lay at the feet of Boaz at the threshing floor and left before anyone could recognize her. All these things done in secret were for the good of the other, and God who has seen all these, rewarded them. Thus, Ruth fulfilled the mysterious plan of God who predestined her to be among Christ’s ancestors.

God’s people are ordinary people who have been made extraordinary.
