For my yoke is good and my burden is light. Matthew 12:30
Jesus invited us to go to him and take his yoke, for his yoke is good. Only God is good; good likewise if the authority of Christ being God himself, he can demand everything of us, because he does not come to us from outside; his influence reaches the depths of our heart.
Jesus loves us and he knows that we are all heavily burdened. He said, ” Come to me, all of you who work hard and who carry heavy burdens and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart; and you will find rest. For my yoke is good and my burden is light Matthew 12:28-30.
Come to me : I will not relieve you of your load but by placing my yoke on you, I give you the means of carrying the load.
Jesus, the patient and humble teacher, enables us to see the mercy of God in our lives and in our own cross. He shows us the love of God even in the requirements of the Law. He is the Son, who knows the Father as the Father knows him.
If we take upon the yoke of Christ, Jesus becomes the center of our life; Christ centre. His intimacy with the Father is centered in his prayer life. Events and daily life in Christ are also a source of discipleship. The conditions for Christian discipleship are humility of heart and openness to God.
God made man to be free, holy, strong in the image of Christ. But the first sin committed by out first parents opened a way for the enemy of God to come into man’s life. Sin is the heavy load we carry and it is also our burden. Knowing all these, Jesus invited us to do to him for his yoke is good and his burden is light.
Life with God is not immunity from difficulties, but peace in difficulties.
