God himself will provide the lamb for the sacrifice. Genesis 22:8
Some time later God tested Abraham to offer his only son, Isaac as a burnt offering on one of the mountains. Among the Canaanites, the sacrifice of sons was a religious custom. Yet it meant the sacrifice of all his hopes to Abraham for Isaac was born to him at his old age.
Early next morning, Abraham saddled his donkey and took with him two of his young men and his son Isaac, and set out for the place to which God had directed him. He took wood for the burnt offering and laid it on his son and carried in his hand the fire and the knife. On the way, Isaac asked his father for the lamb for the sacrifice. Abraham replied, ” God himself will provide for the sacrifice. ”
God asked for this sacrifice in such a demanding way so that Abraham could serve as the model for other fathers. Until both reached the place as God had directed, Abraham bound Isaac and laid him on the wood placed on the altar. Ad he tried to seize the knife and slay his son, the angel of Yahweh called to him from heaven and stopped him. Whereas Abraham saw a ram caught by its horns in a bush. He offered it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place ” The Lord will provide “. And the saying has lasted to this very day.
God imposed on Abraham the most costly sacrifice for a father to perfect love. Though Abraham was a believer and God’s friend, he was also a sinful man and only surgery could purify his heart, it is Abraham who dies, not Isaac : and yet through his sacrifice, Abraham achieves life.
Obedience is the fruit of faith.
