This is my Son, the Beloved, my Chosen One. Listen to him. Matthew 17:5
Jesus took with him Peter, James and John, and led them up on a high mountain. It was not by chance that Jesus brought them apart and invited them to go up the mountain with him, just like Moses who went up Mount Sinai to encounter the Glory of God. His appearance was changed before their eyes. Elijah and Moses appeared to them and they were talking with Jesus. Seeing this Peter spoke to Jesus and while he was still speaking a bright cloud covered them with in shadow and a voice from the cloud said, ” This is my Son, the Beloved, my Chosen One. Listen to him. ”
Jesus is the beloved Son; the eternal Love of the Father can only be satisfied by the son who shares his own Divinity. Jesus is the Chosen One and the Father told us to listen to him. Jesus is the Savior announced by the prophets and upon receiving John’s baptism, the heaven opened; a voice was heard, ” You are my Son, the Beloved One, you are my Chosen One. ” ( Luke 3:21 )
Christians live by the word of God, but not only by the word found written in a book, but by what God says today through those people whom we call prophets. If someone does not listen to my words when the prophet speaks on my behalf, I myself will call him to account for it ( Deuteronomy 18:19 ).
Moses and Elijah, the two most important persons in the Bible come to Jesus. God has spoken in the past to our fathers through the prophets, in many different ways, but in our times he has spoken definitively to us through his Son ( Hebrew 1:1 ), but now he gives all that he can give us by sending his own Son : Listen to him, as says in the Gospel.
Those who listen and walk with God always reach their destination.
