Jesus replied, ” Go, your son is living. ” John 4:50

Jesus went back to Cana of Galilee after the feast in Jerusalem. At Capernaum there was an official whose son was ill, and when he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and asked him to come and heal him son, for he was at the point of death.

Jesus said, ” Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe! ” Jesus’ reproach was directed, not to the official but to the Jews and to us. While Jesus works miracles which confirm his mission, he also stresses that we should recognize him with only seeing and hearing him to trust him and not demanding absolute proof.

The official showed great faith and invited Jesus to come down before the son dies. And Jesus urged him to go back for the son is living. The man had faith in the word that Jesus spoke and went his way. While he was on his way, his servants met him with the news that his son had recovered. The fever left him yesterday at the hour when Jesus told him that his son was living. And he became a believer, he and all his family.

In this second miracle in Cana, Jesus defined himself in relation to Jewish society and its hopes. Jesus proclaims the work for which he has come into this world; His Father has sent him to judge and to give life. But we must first believe in the Messenger of God. Jesus comes in search of sinners he wished to save. By ourselves alone – man cannot be saved. We need a Savior. We all need Jesus, the Savior.

The poorest person on earth is not the one without money, but is the one without Jesus.
