It was full of big fish – one hundred and fifty three. John 21:11

Jesus revealed himself the third time to the disciples by the Lake of Tiberias. This delightful story was filled with divine presence as Christ stood on the lonely lake shore in the light of dawn. The apostles saw a stranger, but John, the prophet, recognized Christ.

The apostles : Thomas, Nathanael, the sons of Zebedee and two other disciples were together with Simon Peter and they went out to fish. But they caught nothing that night. When day had already broken, Jesus was standing on the shore saying to them to throw the net on the right side of the boat and would find some.

The apostles pulled in a net full of 153 big fish. This number had a symbolic value : it expressed plenitude and universality. Such will be the apostolic to Christ. The apostles were going to catch people from now on.

Miracles are another way in which Jesus teaches. The present miracle is God’s word for future apostles. Throw the net on the right side of the boat : They obeyed even though there was no hope of catching anything. Similarly, the apostles would work and speak, trusting in Jesus’ power rather than in their own abilities. To unite the dispersed children of God in the world of all nations.

There is no greater discovery than seeing God as the author of your destiny.
