At that time she felt sick and died. After having washed her body, they laid her in the upstairs room. Acts 9:37
As Peter traveled around in Lydda, he found a man who was paralyzed and had been bedridden for eight years. Peter said to him that Jesus heals him and he gets up at once. All the people living in Lydda saw him and believed in the Lord.
There was a disciple in Joppa named Tabita. She was always doing good works and helping the poor. At that time she felt sick and died. As lydda was near Joppa, the disciple on hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him to come over without delay. So Peter went with them. On his arrival they took him upstairs to the room. All the widows crowded around him with tears. Peter made them all leave the room and then he knelt down and prayed. Turning to the dead body he said, ” Tabita, sat up. Peter gave her his hand and helped her up and presented her alive.
The raising of Tabita resembles what Jesus had done. It is an echo of the resurrection of Christ, as the raising of Lazarus and the widow’s son had been.
God wished to grant these signs to strengthen the faith in Jesus’ resurrection. It is necessary for people to see for themselves that God ” resurrects the dead “. Likewise, Abraham reasoned that God is capable even of raising the dead, and he received back his son, which has figurative meaning (Hebrew 11:19)
Never doubt the power of God.
