Be alert and watch, for you don’t know when the time will come. Mark 13:33
When a man goes aboard and leaves his home, he puts his servants in charge and he orders the door keeper to stay awake for his return. In several parts of the Gospel, Jesus invites us to be vigilant while waiting for his coming back. Jesus comes to us in many ways while we await him, in our work and living our lives.
Our work is one aspect of our commitment to Christ, to the community and to the church. In our participation in common prayer, the Catechists, the sharing of the word etc, Christ comes to us. He also comes in our day-to-day living. Through events that bring renewal and growth, happy events that bring life and joy, more justice and hope for the poor, Christ comes to us.
Precisely because Jesus comes in our daily history, we have a commitment to him to serve our contemporary world. The major part of our commitment to Christ is expressed through the affairs of the world in our jobs, family, social and political endeavors.
Regarding that Day the Hour, no one knows when it will come, not even the angels or the Son, but only the Father. So stay awake, for we do not know when the Lord of host will come. In the evening or at midnight, when the cock crows or before dawn, stay awake.
So do not let him come suddenly and catch us asleep. Each one in his own way, is to be ” Alert and watch. ”
The kingdom belongs to those who prepare for it today.
